In 1920 WWI had just recently been fought. Americans wanted to forget about the war and enjoy life. With this mindset, Americans turned to sports and thus the "Golden Age of Sports" began. During this golden age of sports, baseball became one of America's favorite sports and became known as the "great American past time". The popularity of baseball resulted from the creation of new ballparks, publicity in newspapers, and increased radio coverage. Future baseball Hall of Fame players like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Walter Johnson, etc. also contributed to the growth of the sport.
