The Great Migration

    When World War I struck the American workforce had dramatically decreased. African Americans saw the chance to move north to the cities in order to get jobs. This lead to the long period of the African Americans moving north, also known as the Great Migration. Once in the north there was much conflict between the whites and the blacks. The neighborhoods became segregated and the African American built cities within cities like Harlem in New York.
